Over the next three years, this pilot project will develop a groundbreaking X-ray CT scanner infrastructure for large-scale 3D digitisation of SNM’s vertebrate collection. The scanner, which is going to be built at 3DIM’s facilities, will incorporate robotics technology to automate the scanning process and achieving much higher resolution than traditional hospital CT scanners. When the scanner is ready in 2025, it will transform how researchers can study collections and how the public can experience natural history through 3D animations and prints in exhibitions.
